An Analysis And Appreciation On The Water Use Of City In Shaanxi Province

This paper investigated and collected data of water supply and water usage in 14 cites of Shaanxi province at year 1985 1990 1995 2000 2001 2002, analyzed the current situation of water usage and future water needs of cities of Shaanxi. Study shows that with the increase of population and development of industry and agriculture, the conflict between water supply and demand of Shaanxi cities, especially for Guanzhong area, will aggravate.Currently groundwater is the major water supply source of cities in Shaanxi, except Xi'an, Tongchuan, Yan'an, Ankang take surface water as water source. Shaanxi public water supply companies provide 33.25% of water usage of all cities, with families and third industry as main service receivers.Analyze of Shaanxi cities water usage structure shows that, family and third industry water usage increase every year, while production/operation water usage decrease every year. Hotels, rest houses, restaurants, bathing centers, car washers, shopping malls and other public service trades take major part of water consumption. It is worth noting that with serious shortages of water sources, the water leakage of net system reaches about 10% of city water supply, some particular cities at certain years has over 20% of water leakage.Analyze of living water usage of Shaanxi all cities show that water usage increase every year for all cities, which indicates that for the next 20 years the water demand will be greater than water supply for cities in Shaanxi, the conflict between need and supply will aggravate. Therefore, to build water saving cities is an important method for Shaanxi province and arid areas in northwest China in facing water shortages.
