Based on the generally analysis and comparison of the methods of automobile waste energy storage and recycle technology with PCM- phase change material currently, this article proposed a new kind of engine waste energy storage system. The system uses the heat carried by the engine coolant as the main energy to save fuels and protect environment. This technology of energy storage with PCM possible is one of the most ideal methods of automobile waste heat utilization.Thermal storage container with phase change material is the focal point of this waste heat recycle system.What is more, the configuration and size of the container which the author designed must be matched and its thermal efficiency infects the characteristics of the whole system. Phase change and heat transfer problem include the phase change and the heat conduction, and a interface moves between two phase. It's a strong non-linear problem in mathematics and solved by coupling with the hot media sometime, which result in the difficulty of this problem.By introducing one kind of numeric simulation software, this article focuses on the thermal analysis of three dimensions individual energy storage cuboid units in the plate heat exchanger coupled with hot media liquid. Main work as follows:Firstly, using enthalpy method the author analyzed the numerical simulation to study phase change in thermal storage, made a choice of phase change materials and encapsulation material of PCM,which suit for the recycle system of engine waste heat. Then, the writer made sure the heat capability of the case and designed the configuration and size of the container,and set up the mathematical and physical model for further simulation. Generally the author contrasted to some parameters such as work situation of automobile, velocity of inlet and temperature of coolant, initiating temperature of the heat-store container, the thickness of PCM block, transmit resistance and contact resistance, which influenced the efficiency of the thermal storage case during storing course. Lastly, this paper compared the liquid fraction and the temperature of middle point during the thermal storage course, considering or not the natural convection situation in PCM region. Then this paper researched the rule of the thermal characteristics of the heat-storing container considering the transmit resistance and contact resistance.The method and results of this three dimensions phase-change and coupled model were expatiated in detail, which have an important reference value and impetus to research the automobile exhaust heat storage system with phase change material and will bring great effect on optimized design of thermal storage container.
