The development of freeway produces great economic and social benefits .With bringing people the convenience and fastness, the traffic problems in operation, such as congestion, safety and so on, have severe impact on the whole traffic capacity and operation efficiency, which violates the original intention of freeway construction. At the same time, with the step-by-step development of science and technology, people are gradually convinced that all kinds of traffic problems can be solved by integrating various technologies to set up the transportation intelligence control and management system. As a important part of the intelligent traffic management system , the main task of traffic incidents detection system is to detect and to dispose of traffic incidents on the freeway in time, so that to reduce personnel casualties and property loss and to avoid the occurrence of following incidents. Nowadays the scholars of other countries have developed many algorithms, while our freeway has great differences with other countries in traffic flow, traffic makeup and road establishment and so on. If these algorithms are used in our country's incidents detection directly, the effect won't be good.The thesis stems from the project key technologies research and development on intelligent traffic control system, funded by National High-tech Research and Development Program of China under grant 2006AA11Z228, and the project research on automatic traffic detection and management system of highway net in Shandong province, which is the sub-project of the project research on intelligent information management system of highway net in Shandong province. By drawing lessons from all kinds of automatic traffic detection algorithms and understanding the current actual condition of automatic traffic detection and toll collection system of the freeway in Shandong in detail, the thesis analyzes the data which was collected from freeways in Shandong and designs the Freeway Automatic Traffic Detection Algorithm Based on Information Fusion of Artificial Neural Network.The thesis comprises of 5 chapters and their contents are as follows:Chapter one: Introduction. First, introduce the source of project, researchbackground, source of data, technical route, purpose and meaning of research. Then, the main content and structure of the thesis is given.Chapter two: Firstly, summarize the background of the automatic traffic abnormity identification for arterial roadways and introduce its history and status quo. Secondly, introduce the structure of Freeway Automatic Incident Detection System and the relevant situation of it in Shandong province in detail according to all the sections .Finally, point the most important part of the thesis is designing the applicable automatic incident detection algorithm of freeway in Shandong provinceChapter three: First, introduce the automatic traffic detection algorithms and make an evaluation and impact factor analysis to the classic AID algorithms. Then, present the index and method evaluating the performance of the abnormity automatic incident detection algorithms and analyze the mutual correlation of all indexes. Based on pointing out the shortcomings of the traditional AID algorithms and aiming at the low density of the vehicle detector's present condition and combining freeway toll collection systems, the thesis designs the Freeway Automatic Traffic Detection Algorithm of Information Fusion Based on Artificial Neural Network, which makes use of the mainline detector information and ramp toll collection information. The algorithm that author devises is proved to have good identification performance by carrying out the test which utilizes simulation data of VISSIM. Meanwhile, practical effect of the algorithm shows that it meets the need of projects basically by using field data of JingQing Freeway from Weifang to Qingzhou in Shandong Province to test. The end in this chapter, evaluation of the practical effect and applicative range of the algorithm is given. Chapter four: First, analyzes existent shortages of freeway in Shandong based on summarizing studies of people in the past. Then, bring out a set of practical Video Detection System and introduce its principle, constitution, function, the video detection algorithm, and so on. Finally, make an improvement to the traditional way of video monitoring system.Chapter five: Summarize for the main contents of the thesis and put forward the research work which author needs continue study.
