With the development of computer technology and setting calculation of electric grid relay protection, the research on setting calculation of relaying protection in the power plant is becoming more important than before. The paper describes the structure of the setting calculation of relay protection and the setting rules of the generator in power plant. Then the data structure of the setting calculation procedure for the transformer relay protection is developed according to the seven-layer frame. The program flow is designed according to the idea of project and process. In the programming of setting calculation independent setting calculation modules are designed for each relay protection configuration. This design strengthens the expansion and transplantation of the procedure for the generator relay protection. This relay setting procedure provides a convenient and efficient tool for generator relay protection.This paper also analysis and compare the different restraint schemes, for the differential protection. The equivalent two-side restraint scheme has the best sensibility and operation area for the internal fault and the maximum restraint scheme has the best restraint performance for the exterior fault. The equivalent two-side restraint scheme and the average of mod restraint scheme allow more out-flowing current for the slight interturn fault.
