More and more IEDs have been commissioned in power systems, such as digital relays, PMUs, fault recorders and so on. Once there is a disturbance (for example, fault, low-frequency oscillation, etc.), large amount of information will pour into the control center. Therefore, how to identify the disturbance and then take corresponding countermeasures is crucial for power system security and reliability. A multi-layer disturbance processing system based on multiple information sources is proposed in this thesis. Firstly, it gives detailed analysis on the arrival time to control center and the characteristics of different kinds of information, i.e. WAMS, measurement and control devices, relay protections and fault recorders. A novel framework of disturbance processing system is proposed, which is divided into three levels: disturbance identification, fault element diagnosis and post-fault analysis. Secondly, in the fault element diagnosis layer, a fault diagnosis model based on Petri nets for both line and bus is presented, which contains three different connection modes: single bus, double bus, one and half breaker configuration. On this basis, a fault phase identification method based on Colored Petri Net is proposed. Thirdly, in the post fault analysis layer, fault type identification method and fundamental signal extraction is analzed and tested in great detail.
