Study On Garden Landscape Lighting

In China, landscape lighting design is becoming an important part in urban planning and design. As one part of urban landscape development, rapidly developing lighting landscape has attracted more and more public attention. However, unregulated and disordered lighting set-ups cannot be regarded as negligible phenomena. Lighting pollution has become an indisputable fact. As an important part of urban environment at night, garden landscape is regarded very important element in city space. It is not only the windows for civilization and folk-custom exhibiting, but also the constitution of public space for outdoor leisure at night. So the study on garden landscape lighting is very important and realistic to improve the quality of people leisure at night.The paper is issued in comprehensive, multi-angled and multilevel way. In this paper, the objects are described tri-dimensionally by making a analysis system both horizontally and vertically. Through retrospection of lighting history, the paper aims at the facet of architecture essence, cultural meaning and the symbols in architectures culture. Based on the content, principle and method of the lighting engineering and urban design theory, the garden landscape lighting is established as the paper's theory foundation.Firstly, based on analysis of the characteristic of garden leisure space and lighting demand of people, the paper deduces four principles about garden landscape lighting: (a) ecological principle to emphasize harmonious lighting; (b) make people the center principle to pursue health, comfort illumination; (c) the principle of maintaining regional characters of landscape architecture; (d) ecosystem principle to emphasize the green lighting. The principles above and the demands are qualitative restriction of plan and style of garden landscape lighting and are foundation of specific lighting standard.Secondly, Based on deeply understand of the essential of landscape lighting, the content of garden landscape lighting is divided into three parts: the elements of lighting technology such as luminance, illuminance; color representation and visual-sentience. Garden landscape lighting system is established, which depend on arrangement of lighting technology, ecological element lighting of garden and artistic conception. Lighting of landscape focuses on the effect of the elements, and needs integration of roadways, squares, plants, architecture and waterscape.Finally, the paper aims at explaining by theory combining practice manner, and set up a scientific, systematic and reasonable theory method frame of garden landscape lighting based on profound, detailed and impersonal discussion. By study of lighting handbook published by IESNA, guide to good urban lighting by CIBSE&ILE and other cities' study, the standard value and manners are comprehended. The author also pays lots of attention to elements of garden landscape lighting and integrating the practical cases.
