Research background: In the sense of technical content and construction quality, modern architectures in China differs much with these in the West. There is almost no relationship between form and technology in most buildings, exaggerative forms are usually obtained by superficial or clumsy technology resort. Most architects are short of structural technology knowledge, which leads to blindness when they deal with space and shape in their designs, and finally loses the wonderful creative means.Back viewpoint: Structural systems, including components and joints, are the most important elements in dealing with architecture space and shape. Structural systems are flexible, which can be rebuilt and restructured under many circumstances. In tall steel buildings, by adopting basic components and in accordance with basic methods of structural representation, poetic space and vivid shape can be obtained by restructuring on the basis of fine structural efficiency. It is important to point out, technology provides inspiration for architectural design instead of setting up boundary for designs.Main contributions: Typical design cases are studied by comparing quantitatively efficiency of some structural systems on the basis of structural analysis output, and then sums up some basic rules for building restructuring. By drawing comprehensible diagrams using the professional software, this paper classifies and sums up basic steel components and joints.The whole dissertation contains about 40000 words and 300 figures.
