With the development of the information technology, large number of digitalized and automated instruments for test and measurement are implemented in modern test systems. Optical metrological instruments take a large proportion of these test and measurement instruments. It is an important task to upgrade the traditional instruments with modern technology as well as to develop new types of instruments.Tools microscopes are widely used in the realm of measurement because of their high accuracy and stability. Usually collimating the reticle and estimating the results on the traditional instruments are manually implemented, so the time and accuracy of the measurement are easily influenced by the proficiency and physical status of the operators. These traditional instruments need to be upgraded because they couldn't adapt to the digital era and modern test systems.Reticle stuffs and Sprial-Reading plates are typical structures of tools microscopes,the combination of the two on UTM(Universal Tools Microscope) constitutes a representative results-reading structure. In this paper, a system platform based on DSP&CPLD video solutions for UTM self-reading is presented, which can get the results of UTM automatically without modifying its structure. The system could carry out the mission of large and high-speed image transmitting and storing, in which image sensors are adopted for image acquisition. Through an in-depth study on the characteristics of numeral characters in the view field of Sprial-Reading oculars on UTM, the self-reading algorithm is designed. And also some experiments are introduced to validate this algorithm.The main work of this paper includes:Designing and debugging the ocular image self-reading system hardware platform. Two image acquisition solutions have been designed: one is based on CCD while the other is based on CMOS. DSP is selected as the core processor, and continuous acquisition of high-speed image is carried out through FIFO. Data pagination technique is implemented to store large amounts of video data. CPLD is used for control of image transmitting and storing. The results of expeiments show that the platform has the vast applied foreground in optical metrological instruments self-reading realm, as a result of its capacity for large and high-speed image transmitting and storing.Designing and validating the self-reading algorithm on ocular view field image.
