The plate-fin heat exchanger is a kind of high efficiency and compact heat exchanger, which is of good characteristic in heat transfer. The objective of this paper is to investigate the heat transfer characteristic of plate-fin heat exchanger when it is used as a condenser.A mini-type experimental system, which is a selfsame heat exchanger as the condenser in the water side path, had been designed and built up in order to study and test the heat convection coefficient of the condenser's water side. The measurement on the flow of the both two sides of the water and the import and export temperature of the water should be carried on. The calculated experimental data was used to fit the formula. The condenser experiment, which was concerned at heat transfer performance of the plate-fin condenser, had been designed and operated in the system of the Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC). The objective of the experiment is to investigate different factors (velocity of flow, temperature) influencing on the heat transfer efficiency of the heat exchanger. Then the formula of condensation surface coefficient of the condenser's ammonia side had been fit by the means of the experimental research as well as the theoretical analysis. At last, the calculation error of the formula had been analyzed and pointed out about 20%.
