In order to guarantee the quality of tunnel engineering and avoid economic loss, it is necessary to make a proper assessment over the safety of the structure under construction. On the basis of the assessment, sound decisions could be made and appropriate measures could be taken upon the construction.The main contents of this paper include: establishment of the performance function, statistical characteristics of random variables, and case studies on Wushaoling tunnel and Huangzhuang station at Beijing subway. The calculation results are consistent with the in-situ situations, which shows that this method is able to end up with an objective evaluation on the safety of tunnel structures during construction.The proposed method is convenient to use, helpful in making an observational design. It is of both academic and practical significance.
