The valve is important component of water distribution systems ,which controls and regulates the transmission of fluid in the pipeline system, which can realize the regulation to the flow and pressure according to the law of controlling. When the valve opens partly, the obstruction coefficient of the valve is dozens of times when the valve is full open, even to hundreds of times, which causes greater impact on the actual operation of pipe network system. If the valve on the state of partly open, it can make the actual operation of the water distribution systems have great differences to the design at first. So, seeing the valve's importance to the water distribution systems, the research on valve operation regime seems more and more important. The method of characteristics (MOC) with rigid theory and considerable practicability becomes a basic tool to solve governing equations of transient flow. In this thesis, the analysis of example pipe network, is performed by using the MOC. Meanwhile, Matlab is applied to the mathematic model of inverse transient analysis is established to simulate the different regime of valve in the water-supply network and the inverse transient analysis method and the optimization method of correction Gauss-Newton are put into use to is utilized to simulate he state of valves'aperture.
