By utilizing CFD software Fluent, the paper investigates the power augmentation rules of the wind turbine with and without V type tip vane or S type tip vane. First, it focuses on the following conditions: the tip vanes are set at different pitch angles and different angle changes occurs between the rotation plane and inflow direction. Comparing to the experimental results, it has the same variation tendency with the experimental results of Professor Shimizu.Y. However, certain errors still exist. Second, we simulate the 100 W wind turbine designed by ourselves. By changing the length and width of the tip vanes and following by varying the forward pitch angles and the backward pitch angles, we get the related dynamic augmentation rules and get the optimum size of tip vanes is V6.8 *3.2, the optimum forward pitch angle is 15°, the optimum backward pitch angle is 20°. By comparing computational results with experimental results, we think the method of calculation and simulation to the wind turbine with the tip vane is correct. During the calculation, we base on N-S equation, choice 3-D, steady, implicit solver. Turbulence model is k-εand k-ωSST. Discretization is SECOND ORDER UPWIND.
