Safety assessment and treatment of highway slope is important to highway design, construction and usage. For the highway through mountain area, the slope stabilization problems are more important. In the present paper, the provincial highway through the mountain area in Ningbo is firstly investigated. Based on a large number of the investigated data, the slope diseases are analyzed, and all slope diseases are generalized as five types: sliding, fall, rock flaking, mud and stone flow, water scouring, and discharge system fail of slope tip and toe. Then, slope safety evaluation methods and slope safety influence factors are generalized, fours major influence factors, including slope shape, geological factor, hydrographic factor and man-maid factor, are given, and a multiply factor assessment system are proposed for the slope safety assessment. By engineering analogue and engineering experimence, the established assessment system is certified, then the safety of the highway slopes of the provincial mountain highway are assessed. Finally, based on characteristic of the slope diseases, the common prevention and cure measures are given, which will provide engineering reference for the prevention and treatment design of the mountain highway slopes.
