Sea area projects of the nuclear power plants include three parts: cycle of cooling water, drainage of nuclear safety water and sea defense structures. The sea defense structures are one of the important parts of nuclear power plants. It is used for protecting the whole structures of nuclear power plants from destroying by tide or wave. Code for seismic design of nuclear power plants in China requires that anti-seismic design standard of sea defense structures is higher than common ports. But there is no code and detailed rules for anti-seismic design of sea defense structures, and its dynamic response and seismic design methods have not been mastered by engineers. Therefore, it's necessary to put forward the dynamic response of sea defense structures and its effect factors. This thesis, based on the project of Yang River, Ling'ao and Tianwan nuclear power station, investigate the dynamic response and failure of the earth slope by the technique of model test. Based on analysis methods of earth structures and code for seismic design of nuclear power plants, a series of cases are designed in order to provide ways for analyzing the law of dynamic response and stability of earth slopes, in which the design of sea defense structures and similar projects gain much experience. It also gives evidence for the anti-design of nuclear power station. The thesis is divided into three parts. Firstly, based on breakwater of Yang River nuclear power plant, several models are designed for model tests to summarize dynamic response and failure of earth slopes, and analyze that some factors such as water level, intensity of seismic loading and the style of section affect on seismic stability.Secondly, by a comparison in the model tests of Yang River, Ling'ao and Tianwan nuclear power station, dynamic response and failure of earth slopes are researched. Meanwhile, it is also studied that different factors such as section style, anti-seismic design standard and geology conditions affect on the dynamic response of earth slope. Finally, by F.E.M. analysis, several cases are designed to validate conclusions from the model tests, and dynamic response and seismic stability of earth slope are researched in the field of water level, thickness of foundation and foundation conditions. Base on analysis above, dynamic response, failure, seismic stability and some effect factors of earth slope in nuclear power station are all-sided studied. It also gives evidence for nuclear projects and compiling code for seismic design of nuclear power plants.
