With the development of capital construction in our country, a large number of deep foundation excavations have appeared with the exploitation of underground space and the construction of the high-rise buildings. Many foundation excavations are braced by diaphragm. Round diaphragm has a rational mechanical performance, and it is used more and more in recent years. But it is not ripe both in its design and construction. Therefore it is very important to make a whole theoretical analysis exhaustively. At first, the common types of retaining structures of foundation excavation are introduced. Then the calculating methods and current studying situation are reviewed. Finally the finite element calculation method is presented especially.Take the deep foundation excavation construction of the North Block of Guangzhou Huangpu Bridge of Pearl River in which the writer participated personally as the background. The construction process of the deep foundation excavation is simulated and analyzed using the software ANSYS9.0. With numerical simulation, many factors, including the thickness of diaphragm, the thickness of inside lining, the additional load beside foundation excavation, the excavating depth in each step are studied. By the simulation some conclusions are got for the design and construction of round diaphragm in soils overlying rock.
