Photovoltaic technology, a brand-new technology that converts solar energy into electric power, has been developed at an astonishing rate since the 20th century. Because of the cleanliness and recyclablity of solar energy, the photovoltaic technology is viewed as an electronic source with a very promising future. Till now, it has been widely applied in many fields. The "photovoltaic building" is a successful application which incorporates photoltaic, elctronic and architectural technologies. The paper lists a series of photovoltaic building forms and their corresponding construction methods. In these buildings, photovoltaic materials are placed at locations that can receive sunlight. The paper then analyzes the optimal design of photovoltaic roof, which aims to making photovoltaic material generating electronic power in the most effective way. Theoretical and experimental studies are carried out to determine the key factors that affect photovoltaic batteries' efficiency. The results show that the battery temperature is a dominant consideration, hence, an expression of battery efficiency is proposed concerning the upmentioned factor. The paper also takes a view into power-supply system in structures' health monitoring system (HMS) using soler energy. A small-scale independent photovoltaic system is introduced in the HMS application, which can act as a lasting and convenient power supply device. The paper elaborates on the resonable configuration of such systems, with two practical examples listed.
