The vibration of hydraulic structure caused by discharge flood and high-speed flow appears very often in hydraulic engineering. It may exert great influence on the safe operation of the project and even bring serious damage to the structure. Therefore, it has been greatly emphasized by designers and managers. The vibration of arch dam caused by high arch dam discharge flood is actually the problem of interaction between reservoir's water, foundation, arch dam and fluctuating pressure. Its action principle is quite complicated. In this paper, for the actual need of Laxiwa Arch Dam of Yellow River, the static characters of the arch dam and the problem of the vibration caused by discharge flood will be studied through the hydro-elastic model experimental method and numerical calculation method with the research findings and theories proposed by previous scholars as its foundation. The main research work is as follows:1. To define the range of hydro-elastic mode of Laxiwa Arch Dam through the calculation of mathematical model and then construct the hydro-elastic mode with the scale of 1:100 using the heavy rubber material.2. To obtain the modal parameters of the arch dam respectively under the condition of with and without water through the present most advanced experimental method, then compare with the calculation results of mathematical model and verify the accuracy of the model.3. To carry out the hydrostatic experiment of hydro-elastic mode, obtain the displacement and stress of the arch dam and then compare with the calculation results of mathematical model.4. To simulate the geological condition of Laxiwa Arch Dam-Dislocation of F172 in the hydro-elastic mode, obtain the displacement of the dislocation under the hydrostatic lode through inbuilt equipment and then compare with the calculation results of mathematical model.5. To carry out the dynamic experiment of hydro-elastic mode, and test the response of dynamic displacement, then make program to calculate the dynamic stress of arch dam using the method of mode superposition.The research achievements in the paper will provide reliable gist for the design and the safe operation of Laxiwa Arch Dam, and some of the research methods also can be used to study other kinds of flow-induced vibration problems.
