Modern power systems, characteristized by many parameters, large capacity units, inter-area connection grids, extra high voltage, long distance transmission and advanced automatic equipments, are typical nonlinear, high dimensional, dynamic and giant-scale systems. With the increasing of the transmission capacity and the interconnections among different power systems, a lot of issues on system security and stability are raising up while the expanded scale of the power system are making the generation and transmission more economic and efficient. Many researchers have researched on theory and equipments for improving security and stability of power systems for couples of years and a lot of efforts and achievements have been made, it is still an important issue of most interests to be studied further.With the development of the control theory, electronical technologies and computer operation speed, more and more new technologies, new equipments and new strategies are applied into power systems. The Flexible AC Transmission System(FACTS) is a widely studied and applied one, which can effectively increase the transmission capability, enhance the transient stality of the power system and improve the equlity. However, it adds the control difficulties of the system at the same time. Thus, the design and research of excitations and FACTS are of great significance. This thesis presents intensive and systematic study on transient stability control of power system, adaptive controller designing of Static Synchronous Series Compensator(SSSC) in multimachine systems and robust coordinated control strategy of Static Synchronous Compensator(STATCOM) and excitation.
