Resource exploitation and utilization is causing a great burden in the world, and energy issues are becoming increasingly prominent. Air-conditioner is one of the major power consumer, and the compressor is its main electricity-consumption equipment. An effective and accurate prediction method of the compressor's performance and the status of energy consumption under variable conditions will be useful in the improvement of the air-conditioner's energy efficiency and the development of new product. In this paper, study is focused on the rotary compressor. which is increasing popular in the small type of air-conditioner, heat pump and household refrigerators for its advantage of small size, simple structure, smooth operating, low noise, and in particular, its great adaptation to wide-range work conditions. It is becoming a trend that the rotary compressors replaces reciprocating compressor in the small cooling volume area(0.3-5kw). In this paper, background and current research status of piston type rotary compressor are described. Based on the experiments on the mass flow, cooling capacity, current and power consumption, analysis and study on some important performance parameters such as volumetric efficiency, power factor, current, cooling capacity are conducted. As the current theoretical simulation method is complicated and not practical, curve fitting is used to describe various performance parameters. Classical correlation are revised to get a series of optimum correlations, which is the combination of classic formula and performance-related factors. It could maintain the physical meaning of the classic formula, and also improve its accuracy. On the basis of the least squares method and depended on the experiment data, multiple nonlinear fitting is adopted to determine the fitting parameters of optimum correlation. Comparisons are conducted between different correlations after they are solved, including comparisons between experiments data and fitting ones, the relative error and the coefficient of multiple determination. for each performance parameter a most suitable correlation is selected. The comparison between the test data and fitted value shows that they coincide well.In this paper, analysis of rotary compressor is conducted with a lot of experimental data and new performance correlations are obtained. High-precision fitting correlations can help user to make analysis and forecast the compressor performance without repetitive testing. It facilitates manufacturers and users in the design and development of air-conditioner...
