In this paper, the characteristics of water source heat pumps combined with deep and shallow wells, in which well side heat pumps were connected in series, were investigated through both design example and on-the-spot experiments, for the purpose of father utilization and energy saving of groundwater source. The main work and results are showed as follow:At first, a sort of water source heat pumps (WSHPs) system combined with deep and shallow wells was disccused for its virtue such as energy storage and exchange between the two wells, using heat resource adequately, requiring wells as fewer as possible, and avoiding ground sedimentation. Then, the analysis and estimation about the technical performance of heat pump sets in series and main pumps were primarily researched, and the conclusion that WSHPs in series can enhance well using temperature difference from 7~10℃to 30℃,and then save more energy compared with WSHPs alone in the same water inlet and outlet temperature was put forward. At last, according to designing, operating practice, the principles of confirming the appropriate system total efficiency, groundwater source utilization efficiency and numbers of stages in series were suggested in this dissertation. Therefore, the conclusion of this paper shows an important role in both the reasonable utilization of groundwater source and optimization design of water source heat pumps sets and other interrelated researches.
