Microwave power density (microwave field strength) is an important parameter in field strength metrology. Nowadays science and technology are improved rapidly, communication, radar, computer and microwave devices all have intimate relationship with this microwave parameter. It exists around us all the time and severely affects the safety of our lives and equipments. Therefore, it's imminent for us to solve the problem of affiliation and metrology for microwave field strength. For the moment, the unique microwave field strength standard in our country can be used for calibration at only 2.45GHz, and the maximum value is just 1mW/cm2. There is still a big gap when compared with the advanced international standards. Furthermore, it has been used for many years and the measurement accuracy is worse than before. This thesis is aim to establish a precise microwave power density standard device, whose frequency range is from 1GHz to 18GHz and the maximum value can be 10mW/ cm2. It can satisfy the requirements of the calibration of microwave probe better and solve the problem of affiliation for microwave power density. The method of establishing the microwave power density standard device according to the standard field method is studied thoroughly in this thesis, an anechoic chamber is built as the test site, five transmitting antennas are made to cover the measurement frequency range of 1-18GHz and the whole testing system is established and debugged. Finally, the method of calibrating the microwave probe with this system and the future work is introduced.
