Hydraulics in water releasing structures with high water head and large discharge capability has been paid close attention recently. Based on the Xiluodu Hydropower Station and its emergency gate in tunnel spillway, this paper mainly studied the dynamic loads of sluice gate in the opening and closing process, the flow-induced vibration and dynamic response, with both theoretical calculation and modeling tests. Some results are as follows:(1) A 1:25 scale model was built following the gravity similarity criterion. The gate closing and opening force in hydrodynamic conditions was studied. It showed that the emergency gate can close down safely in hydrodynamic conditions and the design capability of the hoist can also meet the design requirement.(2) Another 1:25 scale hydro-elastic model was built for the emergency gate and model analysis was conducted for it. At the same time, a mathematical model was built based on finite element method. The numerical results had reasonable agreements with the experimental model results, which indicated that the flow-induced vibration model based on perfect hydro-elastic model was credible.(3) The dynamic response of the emergency gate was studied with the hydro-elastic model in the process of opening and closing, and the results showed that the dynamic stress response value was within the allowed range.(4) It was founded that the peak value of wind speed in aerator was high in the full-to-open discharging transition, so the gate closing velocity should be adjusted and the present aerator size should be enlarged.(5) The results of the pressure tests on the gate groove showed that in the process of closing and opening, negative pressure occurred near the downstream of the gate groove in relevant degrees, so monitors should be enhanced in operating application.
