In the steel structures, beam-column connection is the key point in a steel frame, whose capability affects the integral responses of the frame on loading directly. During the Northridge earthquake in 1994 and the Kobe earthquake in 1995, widespread and unpredicted brittle fractures were found in weld steel beam-column connections. So the researches on the behaviors of new beam-column connections have become a hot spot in the recent several years. The new beam-column connections include reduced connections and reinforced connections.By means of finite element analysis of ANSYS, this paper would analyze the behavior of the connections with beam-end horizontal haunch such as strength and ductility .The main contests are listed as follows:Firstly, build up the finite element model. Through comparing the finite element result to the test result, it proves feasible in finite element model to get the behavior of beam-column connections.Secondly, the influence of the length a and the width b of side-board on outer moving of plastic hinge of with beam-end horizontal haunch connections were conducted. A great deal of theory formula ratiocination and finity element analysis were done to get the approximate formula of a,b, and the modification was done to improve the formula finally.Thirdly, research about the influence of the position of load on a and b was conducted by changing the position of load at the end of beam. Changing the connecting form of side board and beam flange, considering remainder stress, researches on the influence of side board on connections were done.Fourthly, this paper do elastic-plastic analyses under cyclic loads of with beam-end horizontal haunch connections, and compares ductility of the bearing capacity, secant stiffness and coefficient of energy dissipation. The modification of seismic check formula for beam-end horizontal haunch was conducted.
