The grandstand cantilevered roofs of large stadiums are typical wind-sensitive structures, due to their features of long span, being flexible and lightweight materials. Because of the complexity of wind loads on the cantilevered roof, the load code of building structures can't satisfy the design in most cases, and therefore a wind tunnel test is needed to obtain necessary information of loads. The study aims to study the wind loads characteristics of the stadium grandstand cantilevered roofs, which can both give reference for further studies and offer foundation for structure design.First, the development of wind-resistance studies on stadium grandstand cantilevered roofs, both nationally and internationally, was systematically reviewed in the dissertation. The wind load was investigated both by the wind tunnel test and numerical simulation. Based on the analysis results, design recommendations for roofs were presented. The main research contents were stated as below:1. After learning knowledge of CFD, the wind load on a long span cantilevered roof was simulated. By comparing the results of the wind tunnel tests and those of computational methods, the aruthors proved that the results are creditable and the method was feasible. Therefore, numerical simulation can be used in engineering design and study.2. Based on the detailed results of wind pressure from a wind tunnel test on a rigid model, the distribution of the mean wind loads was discussed. The mean wind load characteristics of the grandstand cantilevered roofs were investigated meticulously. The effects of different roof pitches, wind directions, sub-roof venting and span/height ratio were investigated by choosing several key parameters. According to the analysis results, the wind pressure on roof was simplified into two-dimension form. The wind load was described in several segments along the spans direction and the value of shape coefficients was provided.3. Characteristics of pressure fluctuations were studied by results of wind tunnel test. Non-gaussian characteristics of wind pressure, their stochastic...
