Presently, the traditional methods are widely used in dam slope stability analysis of embankment dam, although these are semi-empirical and semi-academic methods based on some assumptions or approximate conditions, which results are always questioned on rationality and accuracy by engineering filed. By the stress-strain results based on finite element method, there have had some methods applied to dam slope stability analysis, but the application of finite element method for dam slope stability analysis is still mainly at the stage of qualitative analysis, even if the quantitative analysis is also not out of the control of the trial method by which to definite the location of the most dangerous slip circle and the minimum safety factor against sliding.By the stress-strain results based on finite element method, this paper brings forward a new method to search for the most dangerous slip circle automatically. Including three different search manners, it can carry out the automatic search work in the whole dam slope. The results, the location of the most dangerous slip circle and the minimum safety factor against sliding, become more credible and more accurate. Aiming at above method, this paper compiles program in Fortran langue which makes the realization of analytical results becoming great efficiency and accuracy in computer. It is obvious that, comparing to limit equilibrium method, the analysis method this paper put forward should be more reasonable and the corresponding analysis results should be more accurate. Taking actual embankment dams as example, the conclusion is that using the above method and program the process of calculation and analysis is simple and efficient, and the analysis results achieved are reasonable and accurate. To combine the core wall type rockfill dam used widely, this paper carries out the research, using single parameter analysis method and orthogonal design method, about model parameter sensitivity of upper and lower dam shell and core wall to stress and strain and dam slope stability. The results show that it has different sensitivity degree for different model parameters and different locations of them, that it is sensitive for the model parameters, having great sensitivity to the stress and strain, to dam slope stability, and that in order to achieve a better stress-strain state and ensure thestability of dam slope, it is worth the whistle to pay more attention to choosing those model parameters having more sensitivity.The research outcome in this paper has significant practical value to analyses the dam slope stability of embankment dam, and the research method also has significant reference value to solve similar project.
