The metal wall which is composed of metal wallboards putted together, is widely used to decorate modern buildings. The metal wall is manufactured by a series of working procedures that high quality aluminous board is dealt with forming technology of sheet-metal, and then assembled as well as surface disposing and so on. These surface forms including sphere, ellipse and paraboloid are commonly used to design the metal wall.In the craftwork of manufacturing the metal wall curved surface carry through mesh model segmentation at first, and then small pieces of curved surface are expanded to flat surface, lastly cutting-stock according to the size of surface. Because the sphere, ellipse and paraboloid cannot be expanded, it is increased to complexity of engineering design. At present, moulding is a handcraft method, its craft is complex, inefficient and the waste of material is excessive.This paper, according to the conditions that in making surface model of metal wall mesh segmentation is orderliness, tendence of curve is smooth, no-superposition and no-draft, propose a expandedness of equal apothem algorithm based on analyzing surface expandedness algorithm. The characteristic of the algorithm is that distance between the edge points and the center points is changeless before or after surface expandedness, so It meets the request of putting metal wallboards together without gap. Moreover basing on the algorithm, the computer procedure software, including three-dimensional display of the whole curved surface, design of mesh segmentation, choice of segmentation surface , display of surface expanded, saving transforming the data, printing function and so on, are designed.Through the application of production and practice, the results show that thealgorithm and software are effective and convenient. It can greatly raise production efficiency and lower the cost of produce.
