Based on a great deal of laboratory tests, the instant vibration signals from the soil compactness tests are analyzed and the corresponding quantitative analysis method of the soil compactness is put forward in this paper. The empirical formulas are verified by the results of the laboratory experiments, and their correctness and reliability is analyzed in detail. Furthermore, the advantages and disadvantages of the formulas in the quantitative calculation of the soil compactness are analyzed and compared. Several test methods of the compactness are presented, with their characteristics analyzed. Based on the attenuation difference of the vibration energy when transferring in the mediums with different densities, the instant hammer test for soil compactness is designed. Lots of experiments are made, in which the acceleration signals of the preformed soil samples being hammered are measured. Some feature parameters reflecting the characteristics of the obtained signals are extracted, and their relationship with the soil compactness is investigated, with its empirical equations given. In this dissertation, a complete set of analysis method for the soil compactness calculation in the instant hammer vibration test is established, and its feasibility is verified by the laboratory tests. This provides a new non-destructive, reliable and fast soil compactness testing method in engineering applications.
