Pipe conveyor is a special kind of belt conveyors developed from traditional trough belt conveyors. It has the advantage of sealed-up run, sharp inclination transportion, three-dimensional curve lay out and both-transportation. It serves for cement plant, mine industry, power plant, steel plant, garage disposal and so on. Manufacturing technology of pipe conveyors domestic is as high as that worldwide. However, there is no intellectual property right ourselves. As most of the design and manufacturing of pipe conveyors internal are depending on the cooperation with foreign companies, and the design theory is so little, especially research on the three-dimensional curve and main resistance coefficient calculation.On the simplification of three-dimensional curve structure, this paper extracts the basic geometry model of pipe conveyors. It founds the three-dimensional coordinate equation of any point on the belt by coordinate transformation. Rely on this, it analyses the radius of curvature, load of bending moment, to fulfill the requirement of curvature radius and components design. On the differential model of conveyor belt unit as a viscoelastic body in sluggish theory, it establishes the relationship between the energy losses and work done by resistance, relates the total energy change and variation of loads and moment. It resolves the indentation rolling resistance, flexural resistance of belt and bulk solids, so are the main resistance coefficient and the influentation of its factors. This can be of some help for pipe conveyor engineer make proper choice and do control of transporting resistance. It is also valuable for research of pipe conveyor design theories. It summarizes the design and calculation theory by consulting many documents and standards internal and external, which gives out the computer-aided solution of the large calculation in the design. It suggests the complexity of design and calculation and the tendency of computer-aided designing.
