When a train runs, with the frequently action of all kinds of parts, its running state will change, which even will cause faults. In order to insure trains safe, it is necessary to monitor the condition of running trains and detection faults. Based on the passenger cars running condition monitoring and fault diagnosis system developed by locomotive and car research institute of China academy of railway sciences, this paper studies how to apply grey box identification method on fault diagnosis for railway cars. The main task of this paper is below:(1) The advantage of grey box method to white box and black box methods in uncertainty identification is analysed by studying application background, theory basis and methods of grey box modeling and identification.(2) Characteristic of grey box identification software tools MoCaVa and CTSM is introduced by studying application of the tools.(3) Grey box identification applied in condition monitoring and fault diagnosis for passenger cars is studied. Based on grey box identification method and passenger cars running condition monitoring and fault diagnosis system, the scheme of condition monitoring and fault diagnosis for bogie is put forward.(4) Online identification algorithm is developed for railway cars system parameters to realize the scheme for condition monitoring and fault diagnosis system in real time.(5) Grey box model identification for railway cars system is simulated and tested in laboratory by grey box software tools, it is proved that the scheme is feasible and valid.
