One of the largest preponderance of the Embankment is in taking full advantage of local material as the stuffing.The engineering properties of these material and whether using it rationally in view of its physical circumstances of quality and quantity,decided directly the security and cost of the dam.In the past,the using on the stuffing of the Embankment is very rigorous.Almost the last 30 years, with the development or consummate of the theory of the soil mechanics and the soil test technique,particularly the large soil test instrument,and the using of the smooth-drum-vibrating-roller,the limit in using of the stuffing is been breakthrough and relaxed constantly."The materials input diversification"has been one of the uppermost tendency in the development of the dam.In this case,the select of the stuffing of the dam shell is still keeping breakthrough from rule and widening the material source .the people changed the tradition of using the hunk-stiff-fresh stone as dam shell stuffing into the practice of using the sole feeble,poor-quality rock or the alluvial(diluvial) sand-gravelly soil in situ,or the waste slag from the hub building's excavating.and constructed successfully many new material dam, formed some new theory.It developed the new practice of dam construction.Locating in the upriver of Huoxi River, the dam of Buffalo Home hydro-power station is a type-new Embankment which takes local settling of grit and pebble on riverbed as dam shell enrockment.
