Structural optimization has developed rapidly in the past years, but topology optimization is recognized as the most challenging research topic in the field of structural optimization, especially topology optimization of structures with discrete variables, due to its limitation of discrete characteristic of its design variables, is more difficult than topology optimization of structures with continuous variables and develops more slowly. Therefore, the research on topology optimization of structures with discrete variables has important theoretic significance and actual significance.Genetic Algorithm is a widely concerned global search algorithm, which has good parallel search ability for having pioneered the implementation of methods that exploit the idea of combining solutions, while tabu search has pioneered the systematic exploration of memory functions in search processes, having good local search ability because of its flexible memory mechanism and respective tabu criteria to avoid circuit search. The proposed genetic-tabu algorithms, which are based on the parallel search main flame provided by genetic algorithms, integrating biology evolution of genetic algorithms and local search of tabu search which can avoid circuit search, can solve global optimization problems quickly.The main research work of dissertation can be concluded as follows:1. Two kinds of hybrid strategies of genetic algorithms and tabu search are discussed systematically in this paper. The idea of tabu search is introduced to improve crossover operator and mutation operator of genetic algorithms for the first strategy, while tabu search is executed to a certain proportional selected individuals in the population after genetic evolution of every generation for the second strategy.2. Considering the characteristics of topology optimization of structures with discrete variables, a mathematics model of topology optimization of structures with discrete variables, including sectional variables and topology variables, with the aim of getting the minimum weight of the structures, is built up in this paper.
