Flexible joints are key components of dynamically tuned gyroscopes, whose thin necks'thickness directly influences the orientation of the gyro. So high dimension accuracy is desired in designing thin necks'thickness. In practice the dimension accuracy of them is guaranteed by repetitive process of machining and measuring. Therefore, the high accuracy measuring instrument is one of key factors in manufacturing flexible joints.At present, traditional micrometers are still the main measuring means to achieve off-line measuring for thin necks'thickness of the joints at home. This is not only time consuming but also with low efficiency. And for the joints'slight position changing the clamping once more may bring series of technical problems, which influences their measuring precision. As a result of it, operators with different measuring experiences may obtain different precision. So it can't satisfy the requirements of high accuracy and high efficiency measurement to the thin necks'thickness in real production.One thick necks'thickness measuring instrument with high precise and high efficiency is researched in this dissertation. One special flexible hinge gauge head is designed, differential solenoid inductance displacement sensor is chosen and modern micro-processing technology is used to meet the demand of measuring accuracy. It is very important to design the gauge head which can be hand-held. Then the sensor is developed, and signal processing circuits and control program are designed.The instrument has two ball contact tips which have different diameters. Its prominent merit is that it can find the minimum value of the thickness easily and output it directly. And also it has a splaying and closing control part for the tips to avoid destroying the surfaces of joints. The displacement sensor, which bases on differential inductance principle, can guarantee high accuracy in measuring principle. The operators can control the system to accomplish data acquisition, data processing and the display of the results finally through the keyboard.
