The axle is one of the most familiar parts of engineering equipment. It is mostly used to transfer movement and power. But it usually appears failure during practical condition, which not only leads to the equipment unable to be used normally, but also does serious harm to people. The failure analysis is an important part in reliability engineering and an important tache of feedback system to ensure the production reliable. So doing rational failure analysis to axle is meaningful to practical factory. The rupture reason and prevention are studied in this paper. At first, the broken surface of axle is done macroscopic observation. And it is brittle broken surface. Secondly, the chemical component, mechanical and dynamic capability are tested. It is concluded that the material of the axle is different to what we design. It uses 35CrMo instead of 30CrMo. Finally, a set of electricity-lens photos illuminate that the rupture is typical brittle rupture. The failure reason is the slot with the radius 1mm at the root of the axle. Improperly choosing material and mistaken quenching make it turn into dangerous section, crack fountainhead, and lead to fatigue brittle rupture during work. The strength and fatiguyeproperty was checked in This dissertation by theoretical arithmetic,it indicated both the stress and fatigue were the couse of the axis rupture. The simulation of design and practice case is modeled using ANSYS software in this paper, and the contrasted finite unit analysis is done to the two modeling. It is explained that the failure reason is stress concentrated in the slot with the radius 1mm and the failure analysis is validated to be correct. Based on it, aiming to reduce stress concentrate, improved measure is brought forward, and ANSYS software is used to do further finite unit analysis and configuration of the axle after amelioration is proved rational.
