Pneumatic drive uses pure and compressed air as the driving medium. Compared with the hydraulic drive, which is easy to pollute the environment, the pneumatic drive has the more notable advantage of green.Pneumatic muscle is a new kind of executing element, which has the qualities of low ratio of weight-power, diameter-output force and perfect flexibility. Pneumatic muscle has the same working form as physical muscle, in many occasion, it can substitute the traditional rigid cylinder. Combined with some force-transfer and force-amplifier structures, which are already existent or innovatively designed, this paper makes the pneumatic muscle as the basic force input element, and then, investigates and analyses it's actural application direction. The main contents of the paper are as follows:(1) Introduce the basic theories about pneumatic muscle such as academic modeling, basic identity, structure parameter and so on;(2) Based on the logic sort of the normal force-ampilier, many kinds of innovative structures, which are driven by pneumatic muscle, are designed. They include force output devices and pneumatic-hydraulic composite transmission device, which are driven by pneumatic muscle. Otherwise, we compare the innovative structures with the conventional systems, by which overhang the unique predominances of the pneumatic muscle;(3) Analyze the characteristics of the system's dynamics and kinematics;(4) Based on ADAMS, we complete the model building, dynamic analysis, the design of prototyping model and optimization design of the typical mechanical system;At last, this paper analyses the further research on the pneumatic muscle.
