The problem of insulator pollution flashover in power lines is increasingly serious, because of increasing times and extending areas of flashover. Anti-contamination work becomes an important part of the maintenance of power lines. The key to the scientific and effective anti-contamination work, is the insulator contamination information management and analysis. The traditional management and analysis has implemented contamination information to digitize, but this digitization is just in a"spreadsheet"phase. It can not automatically sort and analyze the information. Anti-contamination work can't take full advantage of digital contamination information.To overcome this problem, the paper applies GIS (Geographic Information System) in managing and analyzing contamination information, and the data of contamination is processed with SDM (spatial data mining). The paper researches and develops insulator contamination information management and analysis system based on GIS.Based on the review of GIS evolution, the paper introduces a mixed GIS framework, from viewpoint of the application level of GIS. The mixed GIS framework combines WebGIS and ComGIS, C/S structure and B/S structure. With this framework, system can offer powerful spatial analysis to advanced users, simple and easy web GUI(Graphical User Interface) to normal users.The paper reviews SDM and its basic method, and brings its application in management and analysis for contamination information. The paper applies SDM in drawing the map of pollution areas. By synthesizing contaminated factor, saturated ESDD and damp factor in pollution areas, the equal saturated ESDD is presented. The isopleth map for equal saturated ESDD is drawn by grid method based on Kriging regression, and the isopleth map is regarded as the map of pollution areas. The paper applies SDM in analysis of the cause of pollution flashover, brings up the Patrol and Investigate Attention, as a reference of planning power line patrol and investigate scheme.Finally, the paper introduces realization of the insulator contamination information management and analysis system, such as design principle, system framework, selecting GIS platform, gathering spatial data, spatial DBMS design, the division of system function and user.
