Distribution Automation (DA) is of great importance for increasing reliability of distribution systems. The approach to evaluate reliability for distribution systems under the condition of DA is investigated in this thesis.A simplified model of complicated distribution system for reliability evaluation is established. A distribution system is divided into many distribution parts. In each part, there is no operational apparatus. In the process of reliability evaluation, faults are set for each part instead of individual apparatus, thus the calculation efficiency is remarkably improved.The influences on reliability due to faults on buses and switches and malfunction of circuit breakers and fuses are analyzed and included in the reliability evaluation.In accordance with the practice of utilities, the scheduled maintenance is set on each feeder instead of each apparatus in the reliability evaluation. Besides, the maintenance on buses and transformers are considered.The sub-program realizing the network reconfiguration with the index of minimal load shielding and the constraint condition of capacity limitation and current settings of electrical apparatus under the conditions of faults, maintainence and being overload is complished on VC++6.0.Based on above works, an approach to reliability evaluation considering network reconfiguration by DA is described.The software of reliability evaluation for distribution systems consisting of all proposed methodologies is programmed on VC++6.0, which is tested, verified and compared with conventional method by typical examples.
