In recent years, along with the enlarging of national construction and carrying on of the western development, the highway construction is on the rise in our country, the stability problem about rock slope correspondingly increases during the highway construction project. The slope stability relates directly to the project time, the construction security, the environment (protection) and the safety operation of road. Therefore, the research of slope stability has the extremely important practical significance on how to prevent the slope destabilization, as well as to treate slope to guarantee the stability of slope.The paper first reviewed the current state of stability investigation and development of treatment technology in the domestic and foreign, briefed the development of numerical methods in detail. The natural geological environment of slope along the route of Mian-ning freeway is summarized, engineering geology condition is appraised. The main content can concluded as follow:After a comprehensive analysis, the main factors that influence the stability of slopes in research area are determined, including the rock types, rock structures and characteristics of structural face, slope shape and water. According to the characters of terrane structure and the relations between strata inclination and slope tendency, slopes along the route of the freeway are divided into bedding slope, counter-inclined slope and homogeneous slope, and the main destruction form and destruction mechanism of slope are discussed according to the slope type.The basic principle of FEM and analysis software used in the paper are introduced, the construction procedure of slope is simulated, the stress and the strain characteristic are analyzed while slope is excavated.
