The stay cable is wildly applied in engineering structures, such as cable-stayed bridges, suspension bridges etc. The stay cable is one of the principal force members of cable-stayed bridges . Under the impetus of external factors, it would be vulnerable to a variety of harmful vibration, owing to its properties of high flexibility, little weight and damp . So , the accurate analysis of both the static and dynamic features is very important for the design of cables in cable-stayed bridges .The basic conceptions of vibration and dynamic characteristic of stay cables are particular presented, and the mechanisms of the parameter vibration are briefly analyzed. The influence of various parameters of stay cable for the parameter vibration is analyzed under the external excitation on the cable end. The coupling characteristic of stay cable and the influence of the various parameters of stay cable and bridge for the coupled vibration are investigated. It follows from the numerical computation that weak excitation on the cable or bridge surface can lead the great transverse vibration of cable , when the frequency of excitation acting on the bridge surface is twice as large as that of self-excited-vibration of cable . The parameter vibration can be restricted by increasing the damp of cable or bridge surface . The other vibration type of cable and some measures restricting vibration of various stay cable are proposed .In addition , the problems and methods in establishing the finite element model of the cable-stayed bridge are investigated , and the methods of numerical simulation vibration of cable are briefly proposed . It is investigated how to simulate the process of cable-stayed bridge to be pulled off its bracket . The dynamic characteristic and the dynamic response of cable-stayed bridge are analyzed in the case of the vehicle bypassing the bridge . Furthermore , the measures to determine the nature of frequency of cable and bridge in practice engineering are proposed .
