The design codes usually use the classical Coulomb's or Rankine's earth pressure theory because they are easy to be used and their mechanics conception are definitely. But both of them have obvious shortage: the distortion of soil must arrive limit condition. When the retaining wall has displacement away from the soil, the designed earth pressure will be lower than the real earth pressure. This will make the retaining wall unsafe. As to the bridge abutment, too much displacement will make it difficult to assemble the bean-slab.In this paper, the calculation of the earth pressure will be summarized and be improved based on the earth pressures vs. lateral displacements theory aim at constructing before filling soil. Found the real earth pressure larger than designed earth pressure and found routine way of rolling will make earth pressure larger. paving geo-grid in the earth to lower the earth pressure and displacement of the abutment. Some works have been done in this paper. The results are mainly summarized as follows:(1) the filling soil pressure is bigger than the designed pressure, when the filling before construction.(2) Use the increasing percentage to show the development of the earth pressure to solve the data error in field test, found that use geo-grid to control the pressure and displacement of abutment.(3) Compare the ways of rolling which include two ways of landscape orientation rolling and one way of portrait rolling, found the portrait rolling will increase the earth pressure, and the landscape orientation rolling from far to the abutment will decrease the earth pressure.
