In this thesis, a steady-state thermalhydraulic scheme for Thorium basedAdvanced CANDU Reactor (TACR) core has been designed, and has been evaluatedusing the thermal hydraulic code CATHENA.The core steady-state thermal hydraulic design scheme and the requirement ofthe design used in CANDU6 and ACR-700 have been introduced, and designcriterions for TACR have been established based on them.A CATHENA model of TACR heat transfer system (HTS) has been established. The structure and thermalhydraulic data of TACR HTS equipment, such as core fuelchannel, steam generator, pump and pressurizer, have been introduced. And TACRcontrol logic and safety analysis logic have been briefly introduced. The fuel channels loading old thorium fuel and fresh thorium fuel havebeen analyzed by CATHENA. The coverage of TACR core thermalhydraulicdesign value has been decided. The fuel channels loading old thorium fuel and fresh thorium fuel havebeen analyzed by subchannel code – COBRA. The differences in thethermalhydraulic behaviour of the two types of fuel channels have beenrevealed by subchannel analysis.Considering requirements of reactor physics design, the TACR coresteady-state thermalhydraulic scheme has been decided. The design schemesof steam generator and pump have been established based on the core designscheme. All design schemes have been validated by CATHENA, and finaldesign scheme of TACR-1000 heat transfer system have been decided basedon it.
