For the question in AC/DC transmission systems of the South China PowerSystem, the paper uses the improved Prony algorithm to analyze its low-frequencyoscillation.The paper uses the algorithm of dynamic relative gain(DRG)and thedominate mode ratio (DMR) to select the appropriate controller input, which was basedon identifying the transfer function of the system with the subspace identification.Basedon that, the wide area excitation damping controller(WAEDC) was designed withLQ(Linear Quadratic) approach.Solve the function of the expanding Levine-Athans,gain the feedback plus of LQ and the parameter of the WAEDC.The simulationsindicate that the controller can provide good supplementary damping to the systems, thus dynamic stability and power transfer capability can be greatly improved. Thedamping control will be applied to the South China power system to control the poorlydamped power oscillations between the interconnected regional power grids.
