With the development of economical trade of China, the national foreign import and export volume increases year by year. This leads to largely increase of the harbor and freight transportation. Ship cranes have many advantages such as flexible and adaptable. It is shown that ship cranes are playing more and more important roles in the world. This also requires ship cranes to having stricter technical capability. On the other side, the broad application of computers stimulates the appearance of many advanced design methods over the single subject, which promotes the design and manufacture standard of ship cranes. As we all know, the intense international market competition relies on the technical competition closely. This will spur crane's technical capability up to a new development step.This paper has an optimization analysis and reliability research on a housing structure of a new style of ship crane,with the method of CAE and advanced design technology. The main research items are as follows:1. The method of building complicated models of housing structure is studied based on the famous software ANSYS. We also analyze the load capability of the housing structure, preparing for the following study of structural optimization.2. Research is carried on the force and boundary restriction of the housing structure on the ship crane. Using different boundary restriction methods, we find some useful conclusions for design and manufacture.3. This paper realizes a new method to write the APDL orders of the housing structure, due to the common ways of writing APDL is difficult for this kind of complex model. The paper also applies the APDL analyse files to optimization design and reliability research of the housing structure successfully.4. Optimization design is conducted to the housing structure.Adopting the appropriate optimized strategy and algorithm, under the premise of guaranteeing housing structure's load-carrying capacity, we reduce the housing structure's weight effectively.5. Reliability research is carried on the optimized housing structure. Aiming atthe housing's gap structure of multi- gates ,we calculate the mean and variance value of steel's yield strength according to related theories. We use the Monte Carlo method for solution and analyze the probability statistical result and the tendency result with emphasis.
