In this paper, the configuration and the discharge mechanism of battery were summarized.The development of the ferrates and its battery was mentioned. The chemical synthesis, stabilityand discharge performance of barium ferrate were studied in details.K2FeO4 was synthesized by KClO and Fe(NO3)3·9H2O, then the K2FeO4 was used tosynthesize BaFeO4. The purity of BaFeO4 was titrated by chromite solution, the result was thatthe purity is over 95%. Structure of BaFeO4 was determined by XRD and FTIR method.Effects of different enviroments (such as in dry N<sub>2, moist N<sub>2 and air) on barium ferrate weredifferent. The decomposed rate of BaFeO4 in the moist N<sub>2 was about two times than that in thedry N<sub>2. We determined the structure of BaFeO4 decomposed in different enviroment by XRD,FTIR and TG. BaFeO4 was quickly decomposed at 180250℃, the remains of BaFeO4decomposed by heat was BaFeO3 and it was amorphous Fe2O3 if BaFeO4 was in air for one year.The discharge performances of the ferrate battery (BaFeO4) were studied. The additives( KMnO4 and CFX), loads and electrolytes were discussed. The composite BaFeO4/KMnO4 wasprepared through dissolving KMnO4 into BaFeO4 and discharge efficiency is over 95%.The discharge products of BaFeO4 in different time and section layers of the cathode wasanalyzed by XRD patterns. Based on the above results, the products and discharge mechanism ofthe ferrate battery were proposed.
