Predictive control of structures has been proved to be an effective active controlalgorithm. It has many merits such as various models, little quantity of calculation, high robust and so on. Nowadays, study on predictive control has broken through theprevious research frame and free itself from the research mode of single algorithm, and starts the research integrating itself with various modern control tactics, whichfurther strengthens the ability of predictive control to deal with complex object, complex task and complex environment. Based on this fact, the concept of ModernPredictive Control System of Structures (MPCSS) is presented and a series of controlalgorithm are studied in this system.Above all, algorithm of structural mode predictive control is developed. Inconsideration of the difficulty in controller designing of high-rise building due to thehigh rank of its model, Balanced Reduction is adopted to reduce the rank. Severalmodes with higher controllability are selected to be controlled. Therefore, thecontradiction between high rank of control object and low rank of controller. Thus, anentire algorithm named "Modal Predictive Control of Structures Based on BalancedReduction" is founded. Then, the seismic response of an 11-stories frame is analyzed. The numerical example is presented to show that the responses are reducedeffectively and the time delay is resolved desirably. In consideration of the uncertainty of predictive model and its parameters,multi-model predictive control tactic based on weighting and switching are adoptedrespectively in structural control. The efficiency of the two algorithms is testified bysimulation example respectively. At last, Subsequent research direction of the MPCSS is pointed out. In face ofvarious attitudes on structural control in academic, some tentative philosophicalthoughts about structural control are made. Some suggestions on the development ofstructural control are presented.
