The long-span steel structures has developed rapidly and gained momentum in the recent years because of their novel forms and shapes, large non-column space and multiplex arrangements. Because of the large scale and the complex system of the structures, new difficulties appear in the structure design and behavior evaluations of structures in service.Based on the summarizations of deficiencies of traditional seismic theories, the idea of earthquake-resistance performance evaluation process of long-span steel structures, in which is proposed in this paper, the performance-based theory is considered. Several performance-based appraisal methods are also introduced. On the basis of current national codes of China, the new seismic evaluation index system for the long-span steel structures from the aspects of strength, structure deformations and structure construction is established. The specific standards of seismic-resistance classification and evaluation of large span steel structures which include grid structure and truss.
