Ground source heat pump (GSHP) is an air-conditioning technology with energy saving and environmental-production, it has been developed for half century in Europe and America but in China it is a very new technology. GSHP can be subdivided into ground-coupled heat pump (GCHP), groundwater heat pump (GWHP) and surface water heat pump (SWHP). Through referencing a great lot of newest research papers, this paper summarizes the latest research trends and results about vertical GCHP, and analyses relative merits and developing trends of GSHP. With the precept choice between GSHP and traditional central air-conditioning, people take simple and rough judgment usually according to a certain index. Therefore it is necessary to do thorough research for the contrast between GSHP and traditional air-conditioning. Based on the relatively theory of fuzzy mathematics, this paper construct a multicriteria evaluation model of comprehensive assessment between GSHP and traditional central air-conditioning. And then gives the all kind of factors influence to project optimization result. This paper consists of three parts as following: (1) Theory of GSHP. This paper has introduced in detail classifications, the working principle, specialty of GSHP, heat transfer models of U-shaped vertical underground heat exchanger, optimum suggestions and the pending problem of GSHP. (2) Theory of comprehensive assessment by fuzzy mathematics. This paper has introduced evaluation model of comprehensive assessment, grade of membership, fuzzy evaluation matrix R and weighting vectors W. (3) Application examples. This paper has accountd the fuzzy assessment vector B of GSHP, water-cooling and central hot water units, ASHP in Shanghai's and Chongqing's residential building and commercial building, and find relatively optimization precept. Finally, giving some suggestion according to the account result is given.
