As the development of industry and the rise of electrical load, the super high voltagetransmission lines have been greatly developed. The probability of lightning stroke on atower increases when the tower heightens. When a stroke hits a transmission tower, theinjected current propagates toward the ground through the tower's body causing aninstantaneous rise of the tower voltage. This may result in a back-flashover from thetower body to a phase conductor. In order to prevent the power failure caused bylightning, correctly estimate the performance of lightning wave on transmission lines isvery important, and this needs the more accurate model of the transmission tower. On the basis of the former research production on the model of transmission tower, bydoing some improvement, this paper proposes a more accurate nonuniform transmissionlines model of tower. The paper uses the differential quadrature method to calculate themodel. The agreement between the result of this paper and field measurements has beenfound satisfactory. In addition, the paper considers when the back-flashover occurs, theperformance of the invaded lightning wave to the substation, this can provide some giston the protection of substation.
