With the development of China's urban and rural power grids and the increasing number of the hydroelectric plant and transformer substation in middle and small size, consumers require higher power quality, and consequently, higher request on the protection devices. In the mean time, the increment of the MPU's (Micro Processor Unit) performance and cost ratio, as well as the development of Electric Design Automation tools, have offered convenient measures for the exploitation of the new generation protection device based on microcomputer. The research on the protection device for transmission line based on floating-point digital signal processor(FDSP) is the theme of this paper. The correctness of logic theory is one of the most important factors in relay protection. This paper validate the testing function of medium and low voltage line protection through the relay protection testing system based on virtual instrument developed by ourselves, so as to make the validation of the correctness of logic theory be independent of the relay protection devices'software and hardware. The research demonstrates the feasibility of using CPU(center processor unit) with the device of FDSP to overcome the shortage of single chip protection, and strengthens the hardware system by transferring the traditional discrete-logic device to complex and programmable device(CPLD), thus improves the electromagnetism compatible(EMC) performance of the system. Also the research adopts the large liquid crystal display(LCD) screen to be the display of man-machine interface. It provides multiple communication modes, establishes the FDSP and CPLD-cored hardware platform for the relay protection. The software system delamination is one of the most important factors for the software system reliability. We can compile the source code using the modularization of the high-level C language and the conciseness and high efficiency of the FDSP assembly language. Making use of the advantage of the FDSP in the digital signal processing, we can optimize and improve discrete Fourier transform(DFT) in order to acquire the characteristic variables of the signal. The output control of relay adopts the thought of array processing in order to drive the relay by control module but not the logical program. Research and develop the transplant interchangeable software of man-machine interface. Propose a cursor slot algorithm and implement the line protection measure and control function on the hardware platform we develop. The experimentation datas for the devices affirm the research production of this paper. Along with the development of the computer technology and chip technology, the relay protection device based on the embedded real-time operation system will become the main developing direction of relay protection based on microcomputer in power system.
