Today, nonlinear static pushover analysis has attracted the attention of more and more researchs and engineers for its merits of simpleness and practicality. For the extending of the pushover analysis and the expanding of its using scope, the paper studied the pushover analysis.Firstly, this paper to development and present situation of static elastic-plasticity analysis and its use and theory foundation and the scope of application of static elastic-plasticity method analysis was discussed, and introduced remaining in fail to solving issue of pushover method. Then three kinds of static elastic-plasticity analysis method which was representative were introduced, on this foundation, the paper studied the issue of the higher mode in high layer of building and target displacement. The paper was put forward to use modal pushover analysis method to consider the influence of high mode, and put forward the improvement for the target displacement and shape vector. Lastly, comparison between nonlinear time history analysis emplaying two typical earthquake records and pushover analysis three typical load patterns on two RC building was undertaken. It is found that with the increase of floor the high mode influence was getting more important, and the floor displacement errors and the story drift errors were reduced notably with the increase of combination vibration modes.It is indicated that the MPA is more accurate than other load petters.the paper offered aspects to the appling of pushover analysis in engineering practicality.
