With the development of economy, the focus of buildings will gradually shift from largely constructing new buildings to repairing and reforming of existing buildings. According to statistics, reforming can saves investment by 40% and cuts construction time by 50% and recoups capital outlay two or three times faster than building new ones. Moreover, many new buildings are damaged to different extents by numerous natural disasters, and cannot be put into normal use. Besides, social development has left many buildings outdated and unfit in function and use. Lastly, the aging of buildings is an irresistible problem. All these have made strengthening and reforming of buildings increasingly important and urgent. How to take effective strengthening measures to recover the functions of damaged buildings is an urgent project for all structural engineers, which is also original intention for the present research. The method that steel reinforced concrete member is strengthened with steel strand and anticorrosive mortar is a new strengthening method. Compared with other strengthening methods, since the anticorrosive mortar is a kind of inorganic material with durability and fire-resisting property, and the galvanized steel strand with high strength used in this experiment is hard to be rusted, the method is easy to construct, and after strengthening a building its figure is hardly altered, so these characteristic endow them with a prosperous prospect.Based on the actual application in a project, this thesis aims at the experimental investigation on the performance of steel reinforced concrete beam strengthened with steel strand and anticorrosive mortar, In the experiment eight beams are investigated, two of which were reference beams that is not strengthened, six of which are beams strengthened with steel strand and anticorrosive mortar. The experimental results indicate that the flexural capacity and stiffness of the strengthened beam are evidently improved.Based on the experiment, the flexural performance, failure mode and mechanism are evaluated. The formulas for calculating the flexural capacity and stiffness are suggested, and the former can be used to design member that are needed to be strengthened in the actual application. Moreover, reliable anchoring method on steel strand and construction method for strengthening are presented.
